Following a 45-minute drive past the impressive Olympic Stadiums built for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, you’ll arrive at the 18th-century Summer Palace.

Feast your eyes on the architecture of the structure, the natural landscape of hills and open water is combined with artificial features such as pavilions, halls (Hall of Benevolence and Longevity, Hall of Happiness and Longevity, and etc), palaces, temples and bridges (such as Seventeen Arches Bridge) to form a harmonious ensemble of outstanding aesthetic value. Then, heading to Yuyuantan park - a showcase for cherry trees in bloom. About 2,000 cherry trees were transplanted from Japan to China in the 1970s as a token of friendship between the two countries.
