Overview

The ruined Great Wall of Badaling is located in Donggou village, 5 km southwest of the restored Great Wall of Badaling and about 70 km from downtown Beijing. This section is the only section of the Wild, unrestored wall around Beijing that is officially open to the public. It is therefore a less touristy section. Its hikers are mainly foreign travelers. The end of the trekking is at the Shixiaguan (stone gorge passage) which is an open place now, since the rest of the Wall becomes more preserved, wild and empty, wonderful but also very dangerous.
The section of Chenjiabao where we camp is in Hebei province and on a mountain of 1,280 meters above sea level. The wall here stretches over ten kilometers and is very varied. There is a one-sided wall, a humped wall (U-shaped), a rugged wall, and a round tower, a diamond tower rarely seen elsewhere.
